Hi Friends and Family,
As you know, we’ve decided to embark on a year-long adventure that will take us around the world. What you may not know is why…
Some years ago we reunited with a high school friend who had just returned from a six month long backpacking trip through South America with his girlfriend. We were completely jealous. See, we love to travel — we love seeing new cultures, trying new cuisine, meeting locals, hiking through beautiful terrain and, of course, the adventure of it all. At the time we were immersed in our careers and neither one of us was willing to walk away.
On the other hand, we weren’t willing to shelf this dream until retirement. We are familiar with loss. We know that life is short. Priorities, abilities, they can change in an instant. Our compromise was setting this goal: by the age of 35 we were going to start a journey of our own. We figured that by then, we would have saved enough money and accomplished enough of our career ambitions to quit our jobs without regret. And that’s exactly what we did. On Joanna’s 35th birthday we left New York for the great wide open. We sure hope it will be worth it.
